Description

Cartilex® Presentation Cartilex® Tablets: Oval, light pink coloured, film coated tablet. Each tablet contains Glucosamine Hydrochloride USP 250mg and Chondroitin Sulfate USP 200mg. Description and pharmacokinetics Glucosamine is a naturally occurring compound for the body’s production of joint lubricants and shock absorbers, which are necessary to maintain healthy cartilage and joint function. It is an amino sugar, the building block for certain glycosaminoglycans. In vitro, it has been shown to stimulate proteoglycan synthesis by human chondrocytes. It also has some innate anti-inflammatory properties, independent of prostaglandin synthesis. Many studies have shown that Glucosamine is absorbed rapidly from the intestines, and transported to the connective tissues. It helps in the restoration of damaged joint tissue in osteoarthritis, especially in conjunction with Chondroitin Sulfate. Chondroitin Sulfate is a glycosaminoglycan and is a main constituent of proteoglycans. Like Glucosamine, it has been shown to stimulate proteoglycan synthesis by human chondrocytes. Chondroitin Sulfate also has some innate anti-inflammatory properties, independent of prostaglandin synthesis. Uses Relief of Osteoarthritis Dietary Supplements Other recommended uses are for tendonitis and bursitis Dosage and administration 1or 2 tablets 3 times daily or as directed by the physician Contra-indications, warnings, etc. Contraindications: There are no contraindications for Glucosamine and Chondroitin. But proven hypersensitivity to these ingredients should be considered. Side effects: Safety studies with Glucosamine and Chondroitin show no demonstrable toxicity. Rarely occurring side effects like mild and reversible intestinal flatulence are almost like placebo. Precautions: Diabetic patients are advised to monitor blood glucose levels regularly while taking Glucosamine. No special studies were formed in patients with renal and/or hepatic insufficiency. The toxicological and pharmacokinetic profile of the product does not indicate limitations for these patients. However administration to these patients with severe hepatic or renal insufficiency should be under appropriate medical supervision. Use in pregnancy & lactation: Women who are pregnant or who could become pregnant should not supplement with Glucosamine and Chondroitin. These ingredients have not been studied enough to determine their effects on a developing fetus and no studies have evaluated the use of this combination during pregnancy or lactation. It should be taken with caution and medical advice during pregnancy and lactation Drug interactions: No significant drug interaction of Glucosamine and Chondroitin was reported with antibiotics, antihypertensives, nitrates, antiarrythmics, anxiolytics, hypoglycemic agents or anti-secretives.
